Reminders to Parents:
Thank you for sending in the dry
erase markers, cookies and candy.
Don't forget the canned food drive this week.
The fifth-grade
is collecting canned beans, but I'm sure any canned food item is greatly
appreciated.
Reminders to Students:
This Week's Assignments:
Math: For the next two weeks we will continue number relations. We
will study factors, factor pairs, multiples and characteristics of
numbers. We will be completing several math investigations. Quiz Friday.
Spelling: This week's words will be the list of states I gave you
Monday. Please practice writing them in script. Three spelling choices
will be due Friday.
Language: We will continue with the editing and revision of one of
the essays in your writing notebook.
Reading: We will finish Shiloh. We will do an extensive study of the
plot structure, author's purpose and theme. We will be creating a
flip book. Your novel test will be Thursday.
Science: We will continue Chapter 3, This week we will be learning
about speed and motion.
Social Studies: You will have a chapter 4 test on Friday. Please begin
by studying the workbook pages. You will receive/complete a study
guide on Wednesday.
Science Fair
If there is a problem with your printer, it's okay to turn in your
work in handwriting. It is suggested that you turn in your abstract
(report) typed.
Don't forget the materials, procedure and data collection table are
due Wednesday, November 11th. I have attached an example we did together
in class.
This Week's Enrichment Highlights: (these are
optional activities)
Math: What number
am I? I am a multiple of 15, I am odd, I am greater than 50 but less
that 100. What number am I?
Language Arts: Write a story from a soccer ball's point of view? Is
it happy, confused, or angry?
Finish this story: The dragon turned and looked at me with fire in
his eyes
..
Science: Making a Siphon
Materials: 2 empty soft drink bottles with openings big enough for
a garden hose, clean piece of garden hose or plastic tubing, water
Procedure: Fill one bottle with water and put one end of the hose
into it; use your moth to such the other end of the hose until water
comes through. Don't drink the water; quickly put your thumb over
the end; now raise the full bottle so it is higher than the empty
soft drink bottle, put the end of the hose you hare holding into the
empty bottle. What do you notice?
