Hello and welcome to
our fourth week of school. We are really enjoying your
child. It seems that we are all now in a comfortable routine.
I am so looking forward to seeing you all on Tuesday night
for Open House. Please come and join me anytime between
7:00 and 8:00 in room 2201(upstairs).
This
Week:
Math: The children will be demonstrating
an understanding of 100; comparing large numbers; identifying
mathematical vocabulary; and rounding numbers. Homework
will be given occasionally. A Math 4 Today assessment
will be given on Friday.
Spelling: We will give a pretest
on Unit 4 words on Monday and a post test will be given
on Thursday. Please study seven words each night with
your child so that they will be prepared on Thursday.
Language: The children will be identifying
predicates. They will also be using commas in series predicates
using a multi-sensory approach.
Reading: 4th gr. We will be reading
non-fiction this week. The children will be identifying
story elements; using good reading strategies and practicing
their reading fluency while reading Survival of the Great
Sandy Desert. I will be modeling strategies that good
readers use as we read.
5th gr. The children will be reading and discussing non-fiction.
We will also be gathering interesting facts on selected
topic using the internet and responding to what we have
read in writing.
SRA: It is a joy to listen to the
children respond so well to the teacher prompt during
SRA. I have sent the first of several “Bob”
books with your child. I realize the content is somewhat
simple. The idea here is allow your child to have a successful
experience while he/she reads. Every Friday your child
should return to school with the book given to them on
Monday and be prepared to read it aloud with no more than
1 error I would appreciate your listening to your child
read and then discussing the book with him/her every night.
