The fairy tale Cinderella has been delighting children for hundreds of years.
Cinderella 's Carriage is a project that offers a fun way to engage students in learning about world cultures through this popular fairy tale. By introducing the many versions of the tale, students increase critical thinking and problem-solving skills as they explore the fairy tale theme across curriculum areas. The variety of tales lend themselves to the sixth grade social studies curriculum, which focuses on world cultures.

All sixth grade classrooms are involved in the Cinderella's Carriage project. Parents and community members are also involved with the related activities that take place. Additionally, sixth grade O.W.L.E.T.S. act as mentors to share the project books and presentations with lower grade students.

As part of World Culture Day at Lake Harbor, each of the sixth grade classes has chosen a country to research and explore. In the discovery process, the class will examine at least one Cinderella story related to that country and compare/contrast it to the "traditional" version. The research information and the story will be featured in an original PowerPoint presentation. The presentations will be delivered to the entire sixth grade on Tuesday, April 15, 2003.
