Matt demonstrates his
technological skills

The Lake Harbor Middle School computer lab consists of thirty-one Dell Optiplex computers with the Windows XP Professional operating system, a color laser printer, a black laser printer. There is a teacher "station" that is linked to a LCD projector for large screen instructional use, and a television is available for video and educational TV instruction. All computers are networked and Internet connected.

Every teacher is assigned an hour block of time each week in the computer lab so that each class has the opportunity to use the lab for any variety of projects or assignments. Some of the projects might include a content-related scavenger hunt using the Internet, creating a graph using Excel for a science project, using a word processing program to type a stsory for Written and Illustrated, etc.

The lab is also used for workshops for teachers after school and on Saturdays. LHMS was also able to offer three evening workshops for parents this past year on topics such as Print Shop, Power Point, and Word Processing.

A variety of classes for students are offered in the computer lab each year. LEAP Enrichment classes are held in the Fall and early Spring to help give the students a "boost" in problem-solving and higher order thinking skills. Among the courses offered is a technology-driven class.

LEAP Remediation classes are held in the computer lab up until LEAP Test time.

LHMS's O.W.L.E.T.S. program also makes use of the lab as mentoring students work with students in the lower grades.

Each year in the spring, third grade students are invited to our school for a "Get Acquainted Day." During this time, one of the segments in the "tour" includes a stop in the lab to complete a short assignment.
