D.B.A.E.
stands for Discipline Based Arts in Education
which is a program that integrates the arts into
the curriculum. The program includes the visual,
theatrical, and musical arts and involves higher
order thinking skills coupled with an appreciation
for art. Research has shown that this program
is successful, not only in raising test scores,
but in developing problem-solving and critical
thinking skills.
Teachers
use various pieces of art by given artists in
lesson units in any of the curriculum areas: math,
language arts, social studies, and/or science.
The art acts as a catalyst to open discussions
that enlighten students regarding history, art
appeciation, valuing, aesthetics, evaluation,
and production. There is an emphasis upon the
process involved, but production is a logical
sequence that is often employed. |
