Boy…the
2008-09 school year is flying by. All of our artists here
in the Talented Visual Arts Program here at Lake Harbor are
busy creating masterpieces and wonderful works of art. Many
have already won contests and money, and the year is getting
to an awesome start. I am including some everyday pictures
of what is going on in the classroom of extremely talented
young artists. Feel free to download any of these.
Our students will be creating a portfolio on line soon and
will be responsible for making sure all their work is photographed
and included. Mr. Dillman, Morgan’s father has generously
agreed to help us with learning some tips on recording their
years at Lake Harbor with his photography and computer skills.
We extend our thanks to him.
The fourth grade students are finishing up their charcoal
set up still life, learning about shade, shadow, highlights
and tone. They have already mastered some one and two point
perspective, gestures and contours. They even jumped ahead
and did real cool animal studies in prisma colors and now
are embarking on a journey through different media and techniques.
They will begin sgraffito in the next few weeks and then on
to our very special clay work. (I cannot divulge the information
on this project as it could possibly be a surprise for Christmas.)
Our fifth graders are starting their second year at Lake Harbor
and are showing great progress. They are working on a pencil
set up still life using an artificial light source and will
begin on their portraits next. They have already created some
really nice pieces for the Wild Things contest and other art
pieces. I am so proud of them.
Our extremely talented sixth graders are completing a piece
of art using 4-5 techniques and media (and I am really impressed
with their eagerness and dedication to hard work!) They are
going on a short field trip to Hammond the end of October
to see their work that is hung in the Columbia Theatre. They
won 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for the 6th grade division…a
clean sweep! Also a special congratulations to Veronica Mialaret
for winning “Best of Show” in the Wild Things
Contest!! (She won over K-12th graders in Louisiana…way
to go, plus the $100 was really nice too!!)
I would like to remind all parents/guardians to help remind
your kids to complete their home drawing as these are reinforcement
of the activities we do at school. If you have any questions,
please feel free to contact me @Barbara.dooley@stpsb.org.
I will answer the most common question up front…yes,
all work will be returned in April after our big art show.
