A
program initiated by LHMS fifth Grade teachers,
this enrichment program has been designed to focus
on areas of weakness in students performance in
order to help address these specific areas. Teachers
collaborate each year to identify skills that
seem to be weak areas across the grade level by
analyzing LEAP and IOWA test scores for all fifth
grade students. Once a list of skills to be addressed
is compiled, each of the eight fifth grade teachers
creates a lesson on one of these specific skills,
so that there are eight different lessons.
Once
a week during the last hour of the day, fifth
grade teachers rotate into a different class each
week to teach a skills-based lesson. Over a period
of eight weeks, each fifth grade class is involved
in eight different lessons in hopes of strengthening
these skills.
It
is our hope that these enriching lessons will
not only raise test scores but that students will
gain a greater confidence in their abilities.
In addition, the different teaching styles also
expose students to a variety of teaching and learning
methods which help consolidate their understanding
of important skills. |
