LEAP PowerPoint
Presentation
In an effort to help students excel and to help
prepare fourth graders for the L.E.A.P (Louisiana
Educational Assessment Program) Test, Lake Harbor
Middle has developed its own program for our fourth
graders that encourages higher order thinking,
familiarizes students with information pertinent
to testing, and gives students that little extra
"edge."

In
the fall, students whose IOWA test scores fall
within the 4th, 5th, and 6th stanines are afforded
the opportunity to participate in special after
school classes for each of the curricular areas:
math, writing, social studies, science, technology,
and informational resources. This Session I lasts
for six weeks: one day a week for one and a half
hours. In the spring, there are two concurrent
Session II classes offered: one for the 4th-6th
stanine group and one for the 7th-9th stanine
group. |
| All
LEAP Enrichment classes are designed to be both
fun and challenging in a way that helps prepare
our children to make their next "leap"
toward a better understanding of their curriculum.
Since each class is limited to no more than twelve
students, teachers can spend plenty of time with
each student to give them "that little extra"
attention and direction to help them to be successful. |

LEAP
Acceleration Program |
In
order to help challenge student functioning
in the upper percentiles (80% and above), we
have designed a program that will expose these
children to additional lessons focusing on a
variety of critical thinking and problem solving
skills. Once a week from 2:00 until 3:00 the
fourth grade teachers will be rotating to each
classroom over the course of seven weeks. There
will be a seven week session in the first semesterl
and another in second semester. Each teacher
will focus on one specific area. By the time
the seven weeks is over, each teacher will have
been to each classroom teaching her lesson.
This exposes the children, not only to a variety
of higher order thinking lessons, but also give
them the opportunity to interact with all of
our fourth grade teachers.

There
are several online LEAP Practice learning tools
that students can use at home or school to help
strengthen their skills. These tools are great to
use to help reinforce skills taught at school. Questions
are often worded and formatted in a similar way
to LEAP Test questions, so students can become familiar
and comfortable with the test. The online programs
are kid friendly, graphically fun, and are enjoyable
for children to use. Look below for the links. |
