The Math Support Project is an enrichment pull-out program designed for those students that have demonstrated strengths in mathematics in order to provide acceleration for those students functioning at mastery level. There are students that have abilities in mathematics that can be stimulated and enhanced so that those students can gain confidence and can increase performance in the area of mathematics both in the classroom and on norm-referenced tests. The Mathematics Support Project will allow students to master the foundation skills from the grade level curriculum in which the student is placed in the regular education setting. The program offers a comfortable, non-stressful environment in which to enhance abilites in the regular education class.

The program is designed specifically for:

(1) Students classified as gifted but have not mastered the grade level math skills essential for the academic accelerated/enriched model available at LHMS, or

(2) Students with scaled scores on the ITBS in a range that allows for growth (6th grade)

The Mathematics Support Project will allow students to master the foundation skills from the grade level curriculum in which the student is placed in the regular education setting. Approximately one hour per week, the student will work towards mastery of the advanced grade level skills in a small group setting with a math specialist. The program offers a comfortable, non-stressful environment in which to catch up with the gifted curriculum or enhance abilites in the regular education class.

Once the sessions begin, students work one day a week in a small group (9-12) setting with other students at the same level. The session last 45-60 minutes. The participants miss one art/music/P.E. class each week. No grades are given for the work done in the Math Support Project, but students are responsible for making up any work missed in their regular classroom, if applies.
