A Word From Mrs. Newman

Below, you will find a great resource for television viewing over the next few weeks. The offerings on LPB seem particularly interesting over this holiday season. There is no mandate. I just thought you might find the listings useful.

If you love unearthing the past then you might enjoy watching Secrets of the Dead, the Aztec Massacre which rewrites much of what was thought to be true about the Aztec civilization, November 18th at 9 pm on LPB. Trek through India, Nepal and Tibet In Search of Myths and Heroes to find the truth about Shangri-La, November 21st at 10 pm. Explore the greatest British myth-the tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table on November 14th at 10 pm or the 16th at 2 am.

If you are a music lover, you'll be delighted in the long list of music shows that will fill the early holiday season on LPB. New shows are Andre Rieu: Live in Vienna, December 1st at 8 pm; Hitman: David Foster and Friends on December 2nd at 7 pm; Fats Domino-Walking' Back to New Orleans on December 3rd at 8 pm, which follows the Great American Seafood Cook-off at 7 pm. A favorite on December 4th at 8:30 pm is the Three Tenors Christmas, followed by a new show Domingo, Netrebko & Villazon: Three Stars in Vienna. December 7 at 9 pm the prolific Carole King: Welcome to My Living Room.

Other favorites return: My Music: My Generation-the 60s, December 1st at 10 pm; My Music: The 70s Experience, December 3rd at 9:30 pm; Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon Live: Pulse, on December 5th at 10 pm; Legacy of Otis Redding, December 6th at 11:30 pm; Celtic Woman: The Greatest Journey-Holiday Special, December 7 at 7 pm; and Johnny Mathis-Wonderful, Wonderful! A Gold 50th Anniversary Celebration, December 8th at 7 pm.

If you love all things British, you can catch up with the Royal Family on Monarchy: The Royal Family at Work, Headquarters/Head of State on November 19th at 7 pm; Born to Be King: Charles at 60 on November 23rd at 9 pm; or Monarchy: The Royal Family at Work, The Queen and Us/Inside the Firm on November 26th at 8 pm.

Have a blessed week with your children, giving thanksgiving for all we have. Family is our most valuable asset on Earth. Enjoy!

Weekly Overview

November 17-18

In math this week, we will calculate costs and profits, write our math reflections on problem 4, and work on using the graphing calculator to make graphs that fit given equations.

There will be nothing due on the Science Fair project until the 4th of December. During this period of time, students will be conducting the experiments that they designed and recording the information found in their data charts. We are really over the "hump" on this thing. It is downhill all the way now. In class next week, we will discuss mixtures and solutions, doing hands on activities as well.

Internet Resources That Will Really Help with a Science Fair Project

I checked out dozens of sites very recently, and I believe you can find what you need most at the ones listed below. Be sure to remember that our school guidelines supersede the ones stated at these sites. The basics are the same, however. Take what is useable and pass over the rest. These sites offer suggestions as to topics, how to develop a question, how to prepare the display most effectively, and much more.
