School Improvement Plan

Much time and energy has been put into analyzing standardized test data. Information compiled through parent, community, student, and faculty surveys has been calculated and reviewed extensively. Using this data, our committee has compiled a list of school strengths and weaknesses in order to help us target areas for improvement. Goals, objectives, and action steps have been written that focus on improving higher order thinking skills in reading and number and number relations in math.

Higher order thinking skills include such skills as reasoning, making inferences, applying new information, and the use of analysis, synthesis, and evaluation of material read.

The concept of number and number relations in math involves a secure understanding of numbers, number systems, different ways to represent numbers, relationships among numbers, and meanings of operations, computational skills, and estimation.

We have found some interesting and helpful websites that give much information concerning definitions, examples, and strategies related to higher order thinking skills in reading and number and number relations in math. Please take some time to review some of these sites to help you better understand our focus areas and to discover ways that you can assist your child at home.

Lake Harbor is working hard to improve our instructional program and value your help and time. If you have any suggestions, we would love to hear them.
