Mission

Apollo 13 was originally supposed to land on the moon, but when an explosion occurred in the Command Module plans changed. Fortunately, the Lunar Module was working properly, so the astronauts moved into it. They then jettisoned the CM off of the spacecraft. Now the problem was how to get back to earth. What they did was they circled around the moon, the moons gravity grabbed the spacecraft and shot it back towards earth, where it had enough fuel to get back into the atmosphere and down into the ocean. Apollo 13 was the first aborted Apollo mission, likewise no objectives were met. The crew was James Lovell Jr., John Swigert Jr., and Fred Haise, Jr. xJohn Swigert, Jr. was the replacement for Thomas Mattingly who got the German measles. Mattingly later flew on Apollo 16.
